Sustainable Photography
The aim of sustainable (eco-efficient) photo production is to organise a photo shoot as resource-efficiently as possible in order to preserve the environment's ability to regenerate. Sustainability secures the natural basis of life for our and future generations! As a responsible person and father of two sons, this concern is particularly important to me.
The following points can help to make a photo production as sustainable as possible:
Arrival / Departure / Transport
There are many ways to save energy in this area in particular. Car pooling, public transport or car sharing offers. For productions with a larger team, I hire a production bus with a hybrid or electric drive to get to the set together in an environmentally friendly way. For jobs and destinations that are further away, I plan more time for my journey and take a relaxed train journey. Only very rarely do I get on a plane. And if the shoot is close by, I ride my cargo bike.
Studio / Location
Here I clarify in advance whether the studio or location has green electricity. Studio owners often don't even know what type of electricity they use. In most cases, they find out from their electricity provider and use this opportunity to switch to green electricity.
Catering
If possible, 100% plant-based. Make sure you eat regional and organic seasonal fruit and vegetables - preferably vegetarian with plenty of vegan options, which is healthier and produces less CO2 than conventional mixed food. Avoid unnecessary packaging waste and disposable crockery and cutlery.
Hair & Make-up
Preferably use certified natural cosmetic products to exclude the use of silicones, paraffins, petroleum, animal testing and genetic engineering in cosmetics.
Good for the climate – even on set!
I often find that the common endeavour to make a photo production as sustainable as possible brings all participants closer together and thus creates a good feeling, a good atmosphere and therefore a good production climate with the best possible photographic results. So it's good for the climate in every respect.
